Lye Yau Fatt’s work is recognisable for its warm, earthy tones that seem to glow from the inside. His subjects are often natural settings and common moments shared between people, and he manages to make them seem effervescent and extraordinary. The painted subjects are among nature, caught in a moment of serenity and bliss. The scenery feels like a moment frozen in time, as viewers are reminded of the warmth and comfort of home, as Lye Yau Fatt has that certain ability to turn his works into something that reaches out and touches the hearts of the viewers.
Lye Yau Fatt was born in Kedah in 1950, he studied printmaking in New York. He held his first solo exhibition in 1979 at the Sum Art Gallery and has then gone on to win the Open Art Sculpture Award, the Malaysian Watercolour Society Award in 1987 and the PNB Watercolour Landscape Award.
