Cheong Soo Pieng was a pioneering Singaporean artist of Chinese descent, celebrated for his innovative fusion of Eastern and Western artistic traditions. Born in 1917 in Xiamen, China, Cheong later moved to Singapore, where he became a central figure in the Nanyang art movement. His works are distinguished by their distinctive style, characterized by elongated figures, bold compositions, and the use of traditional Chinese ink painting techniques combined with modernist aesthetics. Cheong’s exploration of Southeast Asian themes and his unique artistic vision have left a lasting impact on the region’s art scene, making him one of the most influential artists in Singapore’s history.
