Din Omar first hit the national limelight when he clinched a Minor Award in the Young Contemporary Artists competition with a piece from his Nasi Bungkus series, Antara Dua Hidangan in 1990. That year, he also held his first solo at the Concorde Hotel Shah Alam Gallery. He won the Minor Award again in 1991 for a work from his Tepak Sirih series, followed by a Minor Award in the National woodcut art competition at Galeri Shah Alam in 1993. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for National Art Gallery Malaysia from 2010 to 2011.
