Rata

Rata takes its name from Tanah Rata — a township in Cameron Highlands, from where they source their vegetables. Walking into Rata is like being transported to a tropical paradise (picture Bali), with curated furnishings and bits and bobs that contribute to its architectural trope. Helmed by Chef Vic who has a decade-long experience under his belt, his recent exploration of the food scene in Southeast Asia has birthed a plethora of distinct dishes that are both flavourful and highly addictive. Expect nothing less than a play of flavours at Rata. This is evident in the Pesto Paneer and Caper Relish pizza — a marriage of Indian cottage cheese with Mediterranean capers. It is a feast for the eyes and the palate, especially when paired with a lip-smacking cocktail like Mandarin Moschino. Seek comfort in the plate of Rata’s Mutton Chukka, alluring with its sultry aroma and even better piquancy exuded from the slow-cooked mutton with homemade gravy which is best lapped up with turmeric rice. The dish is made complete with the accompaniment of raita and papadom.

Garage 51

Garage 51 took Kuala Lumpur by storm with their decadent, over-the-top, utterly addictive milkshakes. Since then, they have been brewing more than just milkshakes. Rather, they have an extensive menu taht screams EAT ME! On top of that, great attention is paid to the presentation of both their libations and fare, making it irresistible to take pictures in their edgy and industrial interior. We love the comfort exuded by the Chicken Tempura with Japanese rice, tossed with sautéed mushrooms, onsen eggs at its centre and homemade sauce for that extra oomph factor. From the brunch segment, you can’t go wrong with the Toast with Poached Eggs – a hearty dish complemented by smashed avocado and smoked salmon, as well as pesto sauce to tie it all together.

Kubis and Kale

Kubis and Kale welcomes health enthusiasts as well as those who relish in scrumptious fare. The high ceiling, sprawled space, glass windows, dotted greenery and friendly faces is what makes this local haunt charming. The relaxed ambience inspires playful banter with a group of friends over their wholesome poke bowls. With a philosophy on cooking from scratch using whole, nutritious seasonal ingredients, sourced from a community of local farmers and suppliers, the restaurant uses carbon vegetables, which are clean, nutritious and safe. They are so-called because they are grown using the carbon regenerative farming method which is chemicide-free and improves the nutritional benefits of vegetables – purveying only the best for its customers. On days when your appetite is low, seek comfort from the Superfood Lite Bowl, suitable for light eaters. Build your own bowl and choose a base such as the brown pilaf rice, three sides with options such as pico de Gallo, sichuan eggplant and crispy snakegourd, two toppings, a protein choice like cajun shrimp and delicious sauce selections to unify the bowl. The Kubis Sandwiches are delectable and hearty alternatives with choices like the Honey Soy Chicken Sandwich and Egg Burst Sandwich on offer.

Jibril

Founded in 2015 by four university students, Jibril has carved a name for itself in Subang’s food and beverage scene. The first of its kind, Jibril was designed to be a speakeasy restaurant with great ambience and even better food and drinks. The highlight at Jibril has and still is the Salted Egg Butter Chicken which is triple-fried, each time using different premium ingredients to ensure the taste and crunchiness of the butter chicken is consistent and delectable. Switch out the rice and try the Butterchicken Chop Pasta which boasts the same creaminess and umami on a bed of al dente pasta. Besides chicken, the Hot Chilli Clams is a bowlful of goodness, boasting fresh, spice-inducing clams served with crispy on the outside, soft on the inside mantao buns. It embodies contrasting flavours to the butter chicken, but is delicious nonetheless.
