The Grace of The East
SOARING FORM ECHOES THE SPIRIT OF THE EAST COAST
HARTA Space, in collaboration with KLAS Gallery, proudly unveils The Grace of East, an evocative art exhibition running from 12 to 27 April 2025. This exhibition pays tribute to the rich artistic heritage of Malaysia’s East Coast—a region renowned for its deep-rooted traditions, skilled craftsmanship, and vibrant storytelling culture.
Timed to coincide with the Hari Raya festivities, The Grace of East offers a heartfelt celebration of heritage and unity—values that lie at the very heart of Hari Raya. As families gather and age-old customs are observed, visitors are invited to reflect on the enduring beauty and cultural legacy of the East Coast, brought to life through expressive brushwork and bold artistic vision.
Central to the exhibition are iconic works by some of Malaysia’s most revered artists—Khalil Ibrahim, Dato’ Mohd Hoessein Enas, Ismail Mat Hussien, and Mohamed Zain Idris—each capturing the spirit of the East Coast through their distinctive and powerful styles. From figurative explorations to abstract interpretations of everyday life, their pieces celebrate movement, freedom, and cultural identity.
Curated in harmony with HABIB’s Hari Raya 2025 campaign, Rantaian Kasih—which this year focuses on the exquisite craft of the wau, or traditional kite—The Grace of East is more than an exhibition. It is a tribute to connection: across generations, between past and present, and between the artist and the land.
We are delighted to present highlights from the exhibition, showcasing a curated selection of standout works that reflect the depth, creativity, and diversity of the artists on display. Each piece captures the spirit of the exhibition and offers a glimpse into the compelling narratives and artistic expressions featured throughout the show.
“Inspired by the spirit of Rantaian Kasih, The Grace of East is a powerful reminder of our roots and cultural essence,” said Mirsham Meer, Director of HARTA.
“This Raya, as we honour love, generosity, and tradition, we welcome all to experience the enduring grace of the East Coast through the eyes of our greatest artists.”
The Grace of East will be on view from 12 to 27 April 2025 at HARTA Space. Admission is free and open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 10AM to 5PM. For more details, visit www.hartaspace.com and follow @hartaspace on Instagram for the latest updates.
