A large, bold streak of orange handsomely puts this beautiful masterpiece together. It attracts the attention, beckoning the viewer to come closer and inspect the hidden meaning behind another of Zulkifli’s art-cum narration. His omnipresent caricatures and character parodies flock together, with their own unique idiosyncrasies injected into them. This may very well be derived from and inspired by the artist’s ongoing dialogue on the nation and its people, as Zulkifli dissects the ethnicities through his chosen medium. Born in 1962 in Kedah, Zulkifli Yusoff is one of Malaysia’s most established contemporary artists. His first interest in art began when his father gave him a copy of Art Today back in 1979. Since then, his passion in the arts grew and he continued to set a career in the subject. Zulkifli is known to be a very versatile and explorative artist and he has worked in various types of mediums that encompasses painting as well as with sculptures. Apart from that, he is also known for his installation pieces. Zulkifli’s early art training came from the MARA Institute of Technology in Shah Alam where he graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the School of Art and Design. He then continued to pursue his degree in the United Kingdom at the Manchester Polytechnic’s Faculty of Art and Design before setting out to establish his name in the Malaysian art scene.
