Min Wae Aung is a contemporary Burmese Artist whose realistic work is characterized by its strong relationship to Burmese culture and Buddhist philosophy. Almost exclusively composed of representational acrylic and watercolor paintings of multiple robed figures, his work features centrally located people in solid-color space of yellows, oranges, and reds. The outlines of the brightly colored, subtly shaded figures are clearly delineated in black, against a background often executed in a contrasting pointillist manner. Born in 1960 in Danubyu in present-day Myanmar, Wae Aung studied at the State School of Fine Arts Yangon before working as a commercial graphic artist and ultimately developing his signature aesthetic after a visit to the United States in 1993. His work has been exhibited globally at galleries and spaces such as Kings Road Gallery in London and Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong.
